Tracy Morgan and Broadway Show Tunes
Things were still a little cloudy when I got out of bed around 10 am. Gill had gotten up earlier to let Mordecai out and to move the car from the other side of the street (on Tuesdays, that side gets swept, so no parking between 8:30 and 10 am). She found a spot right in front of our apartment, about 12 feet from the fire hydrant.
I made some coffee, and it became increasingly clear that Gill was going to be working all day, so Mordecai and I decided to check out another dog run at Chelsea Piers. Pretty small, and looks more like a skateboard park – all sloping concrete and rocks. We had the place to ourselves, played some fetch, but Mordecai was much more interested in lounging in the pool with his ball. We’ve now visited our three closest dog runs, and it looks like Union Square is our fave.
Spent the afternoon catching up on blog entries for the previous days, then made reservations to see Tracy Morgan (30 Rock, SNL) at Caroline’s on Broadway. Had a nice meal at Caroline’s, then took our seats for the show. The MC and opening act were both hilarious, and Tracy didn’t disappoint. He came onstage with some handwritten notes as he worked through some new material. Very funny stuff.
After the show, Gill remembered that one of her favourite spots was just a couple blocks away from Carolines, and led me over to Don’t Tell Mama, a piano bar on West 46th. Now, anyone who knows me knows how much I love show tunes, but after an hour or so, I suggested that since Gill was working tomorrow, we’d better get out of there.
Walked home through Times Square with Spiderman, Elmo, Chewbacca and a Storm Trooper. Actually, I think there were three Elmos – which, of course, is impossible – except in NYC.
